Come as you are! At New Hanover United Methodist Church, we want to be a place where you feel it is OK to be yourself, where you don’t need to hide your failures and pain, where you feel safe. No need to say the ‘right words,’ dress a certain way, be a Bible scholar, worship in a particular style, … God loves you and accepts you just as you are and so do we.
Our focus is on what unites us—our faith in Jesus Christ and belief that He died and rose again to save us from our sins—rather than on our differences. We believe “In the essentials, unity; in the nonessentials, freedom; in all things, love.” We welcome people with diverse faith histories, personalities, and worship preferences. We seek to value these differences on the non-essentials while being unified on the essentials of the Christian faith, and most importantly, we seek to do it all with love. We want to meet you where you are and together we will help each other become the person God created us to be.
New Hanover UMC is a young, rapidly growing congregation that has been blessed in many ways. Our first worship service was held on March 20, 1988 at Boyertown East Junior High School. On October 17, 1993, we celebrated our first worship services and Sunday School classes in our new building on Swamp Pike. In response to God's leading and continuing growth, a new 34,000 square foot addition was dedicated on May 4, 2003.
Today, New Hanover UMC prayerfully continues to live out its vision statement by being faithful to the God who created her.
We believe the purpose of the church is to be the hands and feet of Jesus Christ to people here on earth and we want to communicate this message of Christ’s love and forgiveness in a way that is relevant and understandable. We invite you to join us as we seek to live out our vision statement, “…to be a Christ-centered church that constantly seeks innovative methods in worship and ministry to bring an eclectic group of people from where they are spiritually to where God wants them to be.”
